There are times when you need to escape from a bad position explosively.
You might do such explosive escapes in a match & when there’s no other way to deal with the situation you’re in.
These escapes are Hail Mary, last-resort attempts. They may or may not work. Or they may expose you to something even worse.
If there’s absolutely nothing else you could do in such a situation, go for it by all means.
But in sparring, try doing these explosive escapes as little as possible. Instead, focus on preventing yourself from getting caught in a bad spot.
Bench-pressing your opponent as a means of side-control escape may help you once or twice, but it’s not a long-term solution. It doesn’t help you learn either.
In case you get caught in such a spot, try focusing on defending yourself & escaping from that position with good technique.
If you happen to be a smaller/physically weaker person in your training environment, you are actually lucky… because you cannot muscle out from bad positions & you have to learn proper technique to deal with all sorts of situations with heavier/stronger training partners.
Stay calm & don’t panic. If you can’t escape and your partner submits you, so what. It’s not a big deal.
Just start over again and think about how you can improve next time.
You will become better over time in the long run.
