Most of the Champions

I want to share a quick, intriguing observation with you.

If you look at the list of the IBJJF world champions and the list of the ADCC champions, most of these champions are players who have strong takedown skills and strong guard passing skills. It’s rare to see pure guard players or some specialists on these lists.

I mean, they are probably excellent in every aspect of the game. Still, I have this feeling that apart from the three lightest gi categories, takedowns and guard passing can be huge winning factors in the other divisions, both for gi and no-gi.

One potential implication of this is that if you want to excel in your BJJ/grappling career, you should spend some time working on these aspects of your game because it can be more challenging to develop takedown & guard passing skills.

Start earlier so you won’t regret it later.
